I stay close to what’s unfolding.
When something lifts, I follow it.
When it softens, I hold the space.
What matters, I frame, I capture
You treasure.
It’s the last moment it will hang like this.
Still quiet. Untouched.
Lace folds in on itself. Light runs along the stitching.
And this is the second
before
she reaches for it.
The father of the bride.
He waves, joyfully - both with and for her.
They've both dreamed of this moment and everything she’s ever pictured is now about to come true.
They’ve stepped outside.
With the ceremony complete, a hush still lingers.
His fingers trace the edge of her veil.
Light. Certain.
Her breath catches
and she can't quite make eye contact.
At long last, together they step into their truth.
They’re in the middle.
The middle of the laugh, the lean, the moment.
The middle of something they’ll never fully repeat.
They're in the middle of their story.
She’s already off the ground.
Her dress; his kilt are caught in the turn.
Laughter shared.
They're in it now. All in.
The room’s already blurred.
She lifts her arm
mid-spin, mid-laugh and the lights scatter.
They’ve joined in.
Music moves through her.
This is the second she lets go.
The evening sun is warm on her cheek, soft across his sash.
They face each other, nose to nose,
in
the last quiet breath
of the day.
